Just found this place this week, and I love it! Last week I got a 1943 P Jefferson (silver) in change at my local Amvets. It is in great shape (I estimated about AU-55), so I dove straight into the Modern Coin Grading discussion area.

I got started in coins in my early teens (early 70`s). I had a newspaper route, which was a weekly local paper, and I collected the money each week, which at the time was 15 cents an issue. In those times, there was still a lot of silver in circulation, which I'd keep and replace with non-silver. At one point I had two whiskey bottles full of silver dimes! But, being a dumb teenager, I cashed in at about 2 to 1...

My coin interest faded, until about 1990, when I started casually collecting again. I certainly didn't amass a very large collection, but it was fun, and I did have some interesting coins. About 15 years ago, I got in a financial pinch, so I went to a local numismatic shop, and sold some of my more interesting finds, like a 1856 large cent, 1884-O Morgan dollar, 1909-S Lincoln, etc. But I still have a few interesting things left, and I'm always scanning my change (I always carry a jewelers loop in my pocket) for something interesting, like the `43 Jefferson I mentioned above.

Joining here has reignited my interest, and I dug out what's left of my collection, and will be posting some for discussion soon. It's nice to be here, and I hope I can be a contributor to this site!

Welcome back! It certainly is fun especially when you're interested in your own little niche. Feel free to post photos of your nickel to get graded by the community :-)

Now that we are all cooped up with the need to isolate due to the coronavirus, there will be plenty of time to read much more extensively on coin collecting both on the internet and whatever books you may be able to obtain via the internet through a coin dealer, or on ebay.

Also, much more time to read posts here in the CCF, and add some of your own.

For a lot of Americans keeping at home, it will be just like going through another winter all over again.
I have noticed in the past, that posting here in the CCF has a higher frequency in the winter months.
