It's has a minor RPD and is listed as variety 48AL in Frank Leone's 1864 Attribution Guide. It's a fairly early die state for this die marriage, as there will be more defined die cracks on the reverse soon with some rim Cuds forming on the obverse in a few hundred strikes or so from when this one was struck.

I'm not positive it is not "messed with." The spotty areas are from small carbon moisture spots they should be black, but the coin appears to have had a chemical stripping of some sort applied to the surface, mainly in an attempt to hide them or lessen their appearance. Also the surfaces have that cleaned look. I don't think it affects the grade though (no rubbing or polishing seen), and I wonder if PCGS would slab it as is? I think NGC would. PCGS may employ their "sniffer technology" on it.

You took some great photos of this one HumblePie - tons of detail, really sharp and well lit!

I'm at a lower grade on it than the guesses above - I say MS62BN possibly details.

Thank You ALL for your input!

Thank You westcoin for the RPD info and the detailed breakdown on how you saw the coin! NGC had some listed on their website, but I could not find a correct match. Also, Thank You for your input on my photos.

No worries, I enjoy looking at and attributing Two Cent varieties. I use Frank Leone's book on the 1864 since that is all he wrote, he has no plans to finish out the rest of the dates as there just isn't enough profit to entice him to do so as originally planned.

It's just a minor RPD one of well over 35 RPDs from 1864 but still an interesting one to me.

For fun, and since I'm locked up at home this week, I decided to mark up HumblePie's excellent photos to show all the areas of identification on this variety - Leone 1864 48L

HumblePie, you may not see all these die cracks and the rim Cuds as your coin is a much earlier die state, but they will show up on later die states, the die scratches (in blue) may not be exactly positioned, as my own copy of 48L is lesser quality than HumblePie's coin is, and thus it makes the die scratches harder to identify to me. Also note you coin has a very small planchet flaw at 1:00 near the rim on the obverse, I have notated that also, unique to this coin.
