Hi y'all..

When I was heavy, as a dealer, into coin shows I used to sell lots of coin supplies. One of the books I was selling was Walter Breen's "Complete Encyclopedia of U. S. and Colonial Coins". Surprisingly Walter showed up at a local show in Livonia and I had a chance to meet him personally.

Walter was a genius and a walking bank of knowledge. Even tho he, in later life, had lots of personal problems surface it doesn't take away that he contributed LOTS to the coin industry.

Now....something I totally forgot while checking my library of books. At that show I had Walter personally autograph one of the books I had with me. Amazingly I still have the book signed, "To Jerry, Sincerely, Walter Breen".

Would never sell it but bet I could get a pretty buck or three out of that book.

Anyway....just another oldtimers story.

Agreed that he was pretty coin smart and (on a personal level) pretty dumb.

Neat souvenir of Breen.

If ya ever want to sell it.........?

You can get a pretty penny out of any copy of that book. Unfortunately the personalization does not add anything to the value. Walter signed a LOT of copies. He signed both of my copies. (My second on has the personalization "May this book meet with better fate than your previous copy. Blessings, Walter Breen". My first copy was stolen in 89. Truck was stolen at a coin show. Got most everything back, but not my copy of Breen.)

Interesting!
Somewhat similar story: Last year, I bought a Cherrypicker's guide off Amazon, and it's signed by Fivaz and Stanton.
