1909-S VDB wheat cents are kinda unique. Google it.

Cool find! Wonder if a collector decided to return the coin to the wild. Not a frequent event, but it has happened.

Thanks ijn1944. I was obviously mistaken that people on a coin forum could explain something to a noob. I'll go Google it then still remember you were a . Thanks!

Well as mentioned, with only 484K of these struck, they are very collectable. The better the condition the higher the price. So to the story. In 1909 the Lincoln cents were a new change of design for cents. It is Abraham Lincolns Birth year. The change from the Indian Head design was a big change then. But both mints were striking the coins with the V.D.B. on the reverse. There were three different die obverses for that year. So if a 1909-S V.D.B. doesn't match these locations, then it is a fake: Well the public had a large uproar about the size of the initials of the designer. So much, that the changed the reverse dies to not have the initials. (Only a few months in to the change) The Philly V.D.B dots locations were different from the locations on the 'S' mint reverse dies. (Another clue for counterfeit detecting) So when a new design happens, a lot of these coins were saved. So they had after that point the no V.D.B. These make it hard now to complete a full set of these coins. There was no V.D.B. on the cents until 1918 where it was added to the edge of the shoulder on all three mints. (Denver started production in 1911 with the mintmark 'D'. Totals For 1909 year is: 1909 V.D.B. : 27,995,000
1909 V.D.B Matte Proof : 1,194
 1909-S V.D.B. 484,000

 1909 72,702,618
 1909 Matte Proof 2,618
 1909-s 1,825,000

Thanks Coop. When people tell you to Google stuff, the results invariably links back to this forum. You are often the expert.

Quote: Unbelievable! Are you just playing a joke on us? Could be an early April Fools joke. It's only a couple of days away. It happens a lot on public forums this time of the year.

@GreasyFingers especially since OP is in Seattle, I'd say stay in and have some lottery tickets mailed instead lol
Unreal find, DoesThisCount. I would say, yes. Yes, it counts. Getting this as an ender has to be more improbably than winning back to back powerballs lol.

Congratulations very nice find. Send that baby in to a professional coin grading service and get it slabbed immediately. Very lucky like everyone says and to find it on the end of a roll almost unheard of.

Looks like die #3 But the angle of the date doesn't help much so far. Images of the Dots on the V.D.B. would be helpful to confirm it being real or not.
