Hi I am new to this. my grandfather passed away a couple years ago and he left me alot of his old coins and I'm looking to cash in on them. If I put pics of all of them up here would people be able to help me out with pricing and where I could go to cash these? Thanks a ton!

Maybe you can think about keeping some and becoming a coin collector yourself. It is a lot of fun!

You need to be around for a while, and make a minimum
of 50 posts before you are allowed to talk about selling
the coins... per forum rules.

This gives us time to get to know you, and you time to
get to know us. Most importantly, you are captive
audience to hang around and actually learn about what
you have. This protects you, and you never know, it
might cause you to have second thoughts about selling
family heirlooms.

I know the sister board, Stamp Forum, has done this for
me. Dad just passed and left a huge stamp collection. My
first instinct was to liquidate it. He never involved
me in the stamps. I was a coin person and never picked up
an appreciation for his hobby. Anyway, going to the stamp
forum and being forced to hang out before selling, I
learned why Dad loved the stamps so much. Now I am buying
stamps to add to his collection, not selling.

Show us what you got! We love pics!
It'll give us a chance to school you before you try to
sell. You'll know what you got and what it's worth.

Welcome!
Dave

But getting 50 posts is pretty quick. Just post the pics here and maybe someone will find something or tell you something interesting about some of those!

the 50 post rule is there to protect members from unscrupulous sellers but that doesn't mean you can't post pictures of the coins (1 in each picture) and we can tell you about what you can expect from the coins if you are planning on selling them elsewhere. To do this we would need clear pictures of the Obverse (front) and Reverse (back) of the coin because condition is everything when it comes to value of a coin

Welcome to the forum. I know I definitely like pics and just love to learn about the history and other facts and thoughts of coins. If it wasnt for this family I wouldnt have added and learned about the collection that was given to me.

yzkid029Welcome to the forum. I would like to ask you a couple questions. How well did you know your grandfather? Do you know what he liked most about coin collecting? I am asking you this, because I am a great-grandfather, and stand a very good chance of being a great-greatpgrand father in the very neat future. The reason I ask is this: Hiow would you feel if your grandson received your colllection, which you enjoyed for many years, and had devoted countless hours checking for errore, varieties, or any other anomily, said the first thing I want to do is find out what it is worth, and licuidate it? I would feel very bad, if one of my grand-kids thought the same way about MY collection! I suggest you find out what it was, that he liked about the collection as a whole. If you did not have the chance to get to know him, before his demise, then I understand your thinking, but if you knew him well, what do you think he would feel? Please excuse my "sermon". It was not meant to be such, but we "old folks" think about our heirs, and what we can do to help them. Some of them appreciate "our" efforts. I believe you are among the latter.
