Do people use a different process for searching older rolls? I acquired a bank box of nickels that I know has been sealed since the 1990s. Seems to me the process is the same, look for important dates, top grade coins, errors, etc. just like one would search a modern box. Or am I overlooking some important difference?

Yes, examine these rolls/coins like any others. Consistency is key.
