Cherrypicked this Shield nickel. DDO, FS-101. It however has a obverse planchet flaw. Would this flaw negatively affect its value?

To me, yes, the flaw detracts from the coin's appearance and therefore its value. Others may disagree..

1873 closed 3 examples in mint state are a bit more difficult to acquire, and this variety, FS-101, only has a few MS examples. The coin has a nice strike and decent luster, but the planchet flaw is a bit of an eyesore. I am still happy with it since my only closed 3 example was an XF40, so a decent upgrade.

Nice pick! Some may say the flaw is distracting and some may say it is a plus to have an error on a variety coin. I personally think it is distracting, but it's still a great coin. It doesn't distract much.

To me, I could care a lot less about the flaw. I am not picky.
