Hello! I'm not much of a collector but we have some stuff lying around that looked like it could use an educated opinion. This coin doesn't show any other damage. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

@tkt, first welcome to CCF. Second, that interesting cross pattern of tarnish suggests to me that this coin was held in a stack of other coins with a two perpendicular rubber bands. I believe that the rubber has sulfur in it as part of the vulcanization process.

Just to be clear though the lines across the face are cuts or indentations and not just superficial marks. Would a rubber band be capable of that? I can take some more pics if it will help. Thanks again

Ah sorry, from the pic it looks like surface discoloration. Yes better pics (both sides, in focus, and straight on) would be helpful. Thx.

After looking more closely at the pictures of the back I noticed the line going though the right wing and did some research and found a similar one that had a die break attributed to the defect. It looks almost identical.
