1989 D Penny Errors? - Coin Community Forum

Thams New Member United States 18 Posts	Posted 04/03/2020 08:51 am Hi there, in an effort to learn about different errors, can someone tell me what's going on with this penny? It has a weird bumpy texture, a strike through error in "liberty", and severe Machine Doubling on the front and back. What would cause this? I know the penny is just a novelty and not worth anything. Thams New Member United States 18 Posts	Posted 04/03/2020 09:50 am So does DDD produce the same shelf doubling that Machine Doubling creates? I see it on almost every letter and along side the monument on the right side on the reverse. It's my first novelty coin that I found, so you'll have to excuse my excitement. Does this mean that the penny was minted when the die was at the end of its life and was about to be replaced? Report this Post to the Staff

See my tutorial on Die Deterioration Doubling, for more information, in my signature box below. Your coin also has a very minor Struck Through Grease issue and a plating issue. Not a keeper.
