I have started to go through my holdings and want to document the coins with photos. As I no longer have a scanner I Jerry-rigged a little photo taking device using my cell phone. Here is the result: Compare the two above with the two below which I posted in the CCF group back in 2013: (The color is quite different. The scans are closer to actual color.) Oh, and here is the little machine...the phone rests in the cradle and the coin is cradle placed on the blue area: Thank you for your opinions.

QA is Questionable Authenticity.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Look at the reverse. There is a die crack through the "STAT" of "STATES." The coin is a B-5 BB-157 variety.

Looks genuine. BB-157 with the die crack through STATES on the reverse. Maybe a later die state, with the crack through T in STATES.
edit: hahaha I didn't see your post

I'd say VF-30. Very creative use of Legos! I think the cell phone photos are definitely better, but you may need to change your lighting source or tweak the color balance of your photos to get the color more accurate.

Thanks, Zurie. I thought that the phone pics showed more detail too. It was a dreary day - no bright sunlight. Artificial light was only option. "Tweak the color balance?""" Hmm. I'll see what I can do.

This is much closer to the actual color. REALLY shows every little pimple.

She's a beauty! I'm not qualified to give my opinion for a grade~ but I can give my opinion on your homemade, lego version of a tripod and I think it's very ingenious and clever~ A+ for originality!

Photo pair 1 is terrible. The coins is made of silver, not copper.
The lighting on the second pair corrects for the color problem. When I compare them to the third image I can see that intensity was a bit weak. Also the coin was lit from the south. The recommended direction is the northwest.
Since the third image is "much closer to the actual color" I like it. But it was lit from the northeast. Orient it so that the lighting direction is from the northwest and I think you'll have nailed it.

The last photo is much better. I have a question because this coin is only one I see in LCS from time to time 1500 -2500 ...how many known varieties for the 1799 are there?

It looks like you reduced the color saturation so much that it's now a black and white photo. I don't know what your coin really looks like, but you could adjust the color with photo editing software to get a more realistic picture. In any case, it's a great looking coin!
