Great portrait but the legend is quite worn. I need new glasses too. Can you help me make this out? Why does it always turn them 90?

If you are taking pics with your phone held out in front of you, try rotating it 90 degrees before taking the pic (so that it is held lengthwise in your hands). Also, you can use photo-editing software to rotate them,

Looks like it might be a Limes denarius of Marcus Aurelius or Commodus.

I think it looks more like marcus. I didn't know what limes were until now. I thought it looked like a Denarius but couldn't be. Needs some more cleaning but I was getting impatient. Hopefully I can make the legend a bit clearer.

I would try and clean that, there is a high probability that you may have some decent silver under that crud.

But not if Ron's speculation about it perhaps being a Limes denarius is correct.

You think it could be an actual Denarius? What is the weight of one? This is 2.6 g. And 18mm.

Also who is on the reverse if you don't mind.

I showed you the reverse in the picture, but you don't see! Clear it and the truth will show otherwise we guess ...

I can see. I don't know as much as some of you do. I don't recognize the gods instantly when so many look alike. I'm guessing genius. But it could be a few others. I still have a lot to learn.

I have an update if anyone is interested. It turns out it is an actual Denarius. I never expected to find silver in a uncleaned lot. Here is how it's looking after some more soaking. Should I continue with distilled water or can you recommend a better option. And what to do about the blue spot.

You can try soaks in ammonia, roughly 15 min apart and brush (lightly) with a soft toothbrush under running water in between. You can also try a lemon juice and water mixture.

Would that be for the dirt or the blue spot?

Really for all of it. I had a green verdigris on a denarius and lemon juice removed it. Try the lemon juice first. I will be posting a Caracalla denarius that I'm going to clean when it comes in.

BTW you are lucky to have found a silver in an uncleaned lot. I have bought quite a few lots and never found a silver - not even once
