@jc76, that is an interesting nickel, but as you may know the mintmarks were applied to the dies by hand in 1976, so their location varies somewhat. The general advice that we give out is that unless the mintmark is touching something else, then there probably isn't a premium over face value.

Hmmm seems like I might be wrong with quoting the conventional wisdom on this coin. Is it really worth a grand?

But it was only a contest to find the first example. After that, they are just normal nickels again. Something is only worth something, if someone will pay you for it.
