Greetings all, Looking over a couple recent FE/IHC threads, a question for the group. Bear with me... I too have a nearly complete FE/IHC set, which of course excludes the 1856 FE as well as the 1869 over 1868 IHC. This set is amongst a horde of other coins/coin sets my grandparents collected from approx. WW II until my grandmother passed in 1986, which a sibling and I have split up for future retirement hobby interests. My FE/IHC set is nowhere near the quality of the "canudigit" thread posted back on March 15th, but I can foresee myself eventually trying to upgrade this set. But the post by "CambrianMarket" on March 17th with questions about green corrosion on an IHC has me concerned, leading to my question... What is the risk of letting an old coin set like this languish for another 5-10 years before I really get into working on them? Is this FE/IHC coin set (and all other ones I have for that matter) at risk of corrosion or continued deterioration that would affect their long term condition and value? I'm attaching a few pics of that set which are not close-ups, but perhaps some of you may be able to determine my storage risk based upon color? Thanks in advance--NHcoinster

I like the set. Looks to be an older album considering the 1869/69 Is still labeled as a 69/68. I would try transferring to a different album, one that might be more sturdy. Well done!

You have a really nice set, some coins are worth hundreds of dollar. I would spend a few bucks and get a new album (I recommend the Littleton album). Congrats on keeping the set together. I love IHC and flying eagles my favorite coins!

Difficult to evaluate this set without close-up pics of each coin.

We need close up pics of the 1877, 1908-S, and 1909-S. Most of the set's value depends on the grade of these 3 coins, and if they're authentic.

Thanks for the feedback thus far! There are so many thousands of coins in their collection I don't even know where to begin... But because they loved pennies and started me off with a set of my own back in the early 80's, that will probably be my starting point. Their FE/IHC collection is actually x4 since my bother took 2 sets and I took 2. The book this set is currently in is actually rather durable/sturdy with plastic on both sides, and neither have I ever touched them nor do I know how to get them out!?! And yes jbuck, the sentimentality is a big thing for me--thanks for noting that! More than anything else, the post regarding the green corrosion IHC and the recommendation to use VerdiCare has me wondering if I should break into this set and attempt to carefully clean them (without actually cleaning them) for the purposes of assuring their preservation. That's what's stymieing me right now. Thanks again all...

And do not clean any coins. Cleaning sometimes removes some of the actual metal. Do not clean coins. I too suggest moving them into a more modern Album. I like Whitman Albums but many think other ones are OK too. Remember that if your Album is brownish in color, your coins will not stand out well.

Nice set! Close ups would help.
