This 1937 P Buffalo nickel was handed down to me in my Grandfathers collection. He had two nickels he wasn't sure if they were real or not, the other being a 1954. He had them both since before I was born. I am just now getting to looking at some of his collection. The striations that go through the devices as well as casting marks makes me think they are cast. They are they are not modern fakes. As I said he had this coin as well as the 54 since before I was born and I'm closing the gap on 60. Tell me what you think.

I can see why you and your grandfather are suspicious.
You could look for the casting sprue on the outside rim. That is the area that the metal would have entered the mold. They may have ground it off, but maybe not.

Look all around the outside edge, like the last image. There might be a slight circular depression or raised area.

Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

I'm guessing it's genuine but has some serious environmental damage.
Rest in Peace
