Finally got my hands on one of these for a decent price. It's not the strongest example out there, but this is a fairly rare coin so I'm pretty happy to have it.

Commonly known as "extra letters in motto", it has been more or less classified as CLO-002 but I think maddieclashes has the best nomenclature calling it CCL(TII)-1C-1983-02.

Very nice, pretty rare coin. I fear there'll be a rash of "hey, I have an '83 penny just like it" postings, but it most likely won't be. Those new to collecting/looking for varieties and error coins should closely examine this coin. Note the markings as a result of a clash with a stray piece of hard metal, struck twice, slightly shifted (an incuse mirror image), noticeable here in tropicalbats coin in the words "IN GOD."

Great find, tropicalbats!

One of my favorites, because I found one CRHing in 1984 I think before I was really into errors/varieties.
Nice find.

That is a tough one to find. Congratulations on a really tough variety to find.
I remember a 5 lot auction last year that had two of these in it graded MS 64 & 65 by NGC. 5 coins in the lot that sold for over $3,700.00

BTW- I had to refresh my memory by looking at the variety on Maddiesclash.com http://www.maddieclashes.com/cclt2-1c-1983-02/. The second set of letters (N G) near "IN GOD" isn't mirrored and doesn't appear incuse unless my eye perception is going screwy again.
On the other counter clash for the year, CCL(T2)-1c-1983-01 http://www.maddieclashes.com/type-i...unter-clash/, the second counter clash of LIB above the date is "mirrored", but appears raised in relief.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

This is not coin damage. But a die issue. Note how the affected areas not showing behind the devices? That speaks that is it not damage from an issue on the coin. If it were damage, then the tops of the devices would also be affected.
