I'm new to collecting in general and after realizing that I'm working on the Presidential dollars AND I want a sacagawea I thought I should collect dollars. I have a mess of ikes because my parents hoarded them for grandkids they thought they might have. (if I ever get married in the future they might have some) but for right now they're mine. I'm looking to get a Morgan dollar.

question: what should I consider. my thing is I'm cheap. I'm not looking for a valuable coin, I just want an old coin. the thought of having a coin that 100+ years old amazes me. I tend to buy by price and have found some high grade morgans at g r coin for about 30-40 dollars. should I just go eeny meeny minie mo or is there something I should consider when deciding which morgan to choose. so long as it looks good, that's my only concern.

Well, if you want a collection, are you looking at all different years, by their mint mark, etc. If you just want a small selection of years, you can get some very nice looking coins for a reasonable price. For a lot of years in the Morgan series, you can get AU (Almost Uncirculated) coins. Most morgans will be relatively affordable unless they are key dates or have a little CC on them!

If you are looking for a nice coin at a decent price - and you don't care much about the date/MM - this is definitley doable.

I wuold think that you can find a slabbed Morgan in MS 63 or 64 for about 50 - 60 bucks. If you really want to stay in the 30 - 40 price range you can get a raw one that would be white and shiny (probably Au 58 or MS 60 or 61 for the 30 to 40 range.

Happy hunting!

i found an ms63 online which I ordered last nite. then of course I found a dealer that I heard of nearby online. they don't have lots of pictures but it's easy for me to get to and would eliminate the shipping and handling. I'm tempted to get more but afterwards I wanna focus on sacagawea 2000 proof.

buy the best that you can afford.

Since there is not much difference between a circ and an unc, go for the better coin.
