Hello Everyone,
It's been a long time since I have posted anything on this site. Well having so much time being confined to my home I decided to go through coins.

So having said this I came across an 1810 8 Real coin then decided to google some information on this and honestly I still wouldn't know if this is real or fake because of the case it's in. Is this something that should be weighed? I would then of course have to break it out of the plastic, if you agree than would you be able to tell me what the weight of this coin would be if it were silver?

I appreciate any info you might suggest. Thanks!

i would say dont break the case, however if you can photograph coin without glare from both side with nice lighting and good closeup, expert might be able to give a good opinion on whether genuine or not.

My gut (based on general style, alloy appearance, etc) tells me genuine but low grade - the chop marks, improperly cleaned surfaces, and little remaining detail speak to a long, hard life. Many sets like this one were prepared back 30-50 years ago when 8r pieces (ive seen similar sets with Georgian / Victorian Crowns) did not carry as much of a premium as they do now, and sold at huge margins to non-coin collectors.

This being said, with the rise in interest for Crown size silver coins, I have encountered instances where the piece did turn out to be a decent investment (albeit a long payoff). I also have to add that better photos would help with a definite answer as to genuine or not - but as per above, I wouldn't jump straight to popping it out.
