I am hoping that this grades XF-40 (I do not collect dollars and cannot grade them):

Could you show us brighter pics that show surface detail better?

Same coin with flash. Not much better.

Based on the breast feathers alone, I'd say this is at least AU-58, and very possibly better. But these pics are just not showing us the true surfaces - they are leaden, and not bright and illuminating.

I recently sold my EF40 and yours looks nicer. I would say it is in the AU55 neighborhood.

"Leaden?" Interesting description. Compare this 1878 to the 1879 I also have. Brighter surface. http://goccf.com/t/372299Of the 40 so-so dollars that I have and intend to sell here soon I kept both of these as type coins. I am happy that it at least is an XF-40.

I'm not seeing the wear to bring it into the AU range. I think its AU58 or MS63. base don the photos its had one dip too many though it probably would grade straight

AU-58 but not sure if the surfaces are original. Hard to tell for sure from these photos.
