Pretty coin! There are a few knocks around the rim but judging from the high points it looks AU.
1963 was a lower mintage year: 2.4M

G'day,
there was another CCF thread about an N.Z. penny, recently.
there was some information about the bird depicted: it's called a tui.
Very nice looking example.
