Hi all

I've finally been going through my 1952 Perth pennies to sort out, and hopefully find, a few more of each of all the varieties. There could/should be 4 or 5 ? - according to my Feb 1966 Australian Coin Chart booklet which clearly illustrates the standard issue and varieties.

I have never seen any of these 1952 Perth pennies in better then aEF.

I've been hoarding these for many years and as a result of going through
many of them, I have found that there is a distinct variance in the position of the Dot after the last " A " of Australia.

The Dot on a few of these pennies are slightly smaller - not from any wear - than what they are on the majority of these 1952 Perth pennies, and I figure at this early stage of checking that the varying space/gap between the Dot and the last " A " of Australia could be synonymous with each of the varieties of the " 2 " in the very unusual minting process of these 1952 Perth pennies..

Has anyone else checked these 1952 Perth pennies closely in the past?

Perhaps Novel could share some of her welcomed wisdom.

so I looked up a free CCF reference and the 1952 P has 4 variety of 2's, there is a pointed tail, a point tilted, a Squared, and a wedged.

As to whether there is something else different to the obverse I don't know, I cant say that ive checked that closely to note these details.

There are four basic variations as mentioned.
But if you are interested in some of the more obscure variations then there are more than a dozen.
There was a good article recently in CAB Magazine which covered them.

thanks everyone.

I've been aware of the varieties since I bought the Feb 1966 Australian Coin Chart booklet new for 3/-.

Checking the different spacing of the dot after the last A of Australia on the 1952 Perth pennies has me intrigued.

Were they minted immediately after a long liquid lunch ?

Oops, my apologies NEVOL .
