Might be? I wasn't quite sure what that was. Could be some odd-ball variant? Although there aren't a lot of that particular coin out there.... Might be one of those times when you need to look up into the sky and call out for Barry Borselino...

I'm just fishing for opinions. Asking price is way too high but the 1885 NFLD 20 cent is hard to come by. So, I want it but I don't want to spend that much. But I want it. But I don't want to spend that much.

That's not quite an AU coin. Not hard to find in EF or less. Bet there's about 50 on ebay. Wait for the right coin at the right price to come along. Unless you're waiting for an AU or better which might be tough.

This one has a double 18. DBM you are correct in saying this one isn't AU (just barely) but you are wrong about the availability of this coin in high grade. They are easy to find in VF, however the one pictured is the nicest one currently on ebay and there are no others of equal quality. If that scratch bothers you Silver, let it go. Cheers

I agree with @TheDeductible - hard to find at this grade. For perspective, PCGS has the following in its POP reports: 2 mint state (62 and 63) 1 AU58 0 AU 53-55 3 AU50 4 EF45 4 EF40 11 VF
I think it's got a shot at EF45, maybe AU50 on a good day (hard to tell what the surfaces are like with these photos). That puts it at the top end for this particular year.

Even with some manipulation, I can't confirm whether that mark on (or under) the 5 is really a scratch, or instead some sort of die or planchet flaw. I'd grill the seller about it, but that's me.

Indeed - also the prepunched 1 and 8 are quite obvious...
