Hello, Does anyone here have a subscription to Coin World Magazine, and if so how do you like it, is it worth the money? A nice lady from their customer service center is sending me a sample issue. Thanks, Rich Rich M. - Collector since 2008

Rich: Very good newspaper. The monthly trends is very valuable, I keep them all. As far as articles, very good. However, Numismatic News (less ads, small paper) does have better articles, especially those by the late Paul Green.

Honestly, my favorite publication is "the Numismatist." The articles are wonderful. In fact, old issues of this publication actually go for a premium.

I love Coin World. The weekly issues are worth a buck for the pics alone. You also get access to their online Coin Values and inventory tracking software with a subscription.

As a Coin Dealer I always subscribe to Coin World and the Grey Sheet to keep up on most everything. You also get access to online CW Trends which is a fairly (in most instances) good guide as to what the retail of a coin is. It seems like they keep it updated pretty well. Have seen a few errors on the Trends page but mostly it is about as accurate as you can get on the retail side. Gives you a starting point to bargain with.

I enjoy Coin World and Numismatist. I was a charter subscriber to Coin World, and actually have that very first issue hidden away -- somewhere!

Couple of questions about Numismatic Publications. Does either Coin World or Numismatic News carry trends for Canadian coins? I would assume both carry trends of US coin values. I have not had a subscription of either of these for maybe 15 years now so I kind of forget their strengths and weakness. Any one remember one called "Numismatic Scrapbook?" (oops giving away my age!) Thanks!

I usually pick up a copy at a coin show. Great information. Where I live few people have coin, gun, knife, etc magazines sent to their homes. Such items possibly sticking out of a mail box is not real smart in a heavy crime area.

Got a question for you " Coin World" subscibers; recently someone told me that Australia actually minted some of the SAE's for the US Mint, said he read it in an article in Coin World, could be true, has anyone ever read anything like that? ....I wouldn't imagine another country would be minting SAE's I think the Mint even mints coins for other countries

Quote: recently someone told me that Australia actually minted some of the SAE's for the US Mint What I read in Coin World was that their is Australian supplier of planchets that was struggling with the demand this year. Didn't see anything about striking U.S. coinage in Australia but I guess it's possible.

so, you think it may have been just a planchet issue? I thought I had read somewhere that the US Mint has to use Ag from the US, or does that just apply to Au? Anyway I found it odd that another country would be minting US Bullion coins
