But the larger problem — as with many other pandemic shortages — is distribution. While it is both, distribution is the larger issue, giving your earlier statement more value. Thank you.

I live in Alabama and until a few weeks ago, I was searching rolls and was seeing 2020 P quarters. Unusual because I usually see Denver quarters first. No W quarters though. I have traded several of my Frank Church W quarters for the National Park and Weir Farm quarters though.

Usually I do see Denver coins first, but this year it's been all Philly. Not one Denver. Is that what you were asking, or was it related to the actual coins?

Quote: Is that what you were asking, or was it related to the actual coins? The coins themselves. The best way for me to describe them or compare them, would be almost like a paint comparison. The D's (IMO) have a high gloss or proof like surface/luster compared to the P's. The P's surface/luster is like a satin finish. Have you noticed this?

I went back and looked at my album and can tell a difference between the two. Most of the Denver mint quarters have more luster. They also have had a tendency to tone slightly golden in the Whitman Album I have them in. I bought the first I think 6 years of the run from Littleton on a special so they have been in there the same amount of time. Interesting.
When I was finding those West Point quarters last year, I could really tell a difference in those. The West Point quarters definitely have more surface luster.

Quote: I have noticed this in the recent past. I guess it's something to do with the dies at the various mints are using.

The dies come from Philly, so I do not think that would be the case.
I wonder if it is just how Denver mints their coins. Do they have to calibrate the machines for the altitude? Even going back to my Ikes I can often see a difference between them.
The more recent issues though just seem obvious. I can guess the mint mark just looking at the reverse.

Quote: The Denver dies come from Philly? I didn't know that. It seems like you may be right. They did come from Philly before 1997. http://goccf.com/t/363754#3124687Quote: Close, at that time all the dies were made at Philadelphia, From the same hub, and then they punched the mintmarks into the ones for Denver or San Francisco and then shipped them out. After 1997 Philadelphia provided Denver with a master hub that included the mintmark and Denver then made their own dies for the year. So that helps explain the quarters, but not my Ikes.
