Tanman2001 Pillar of the Community United States 4402 Posts	Posted 04/30/2020 9:03 pm I thought this one was a Gallienus - VIRTUS AVG based on the design, but the lettering visible on the reverse (VI? at top) doesn't fit. sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 05/01/2020 12:39 am I think that you have identified it correctly. *Virtue* standing left, holding spear in left hand, right hand resting on shield. There are several minor variations of the VIRTVS reverse issued from a few mints, all with different RIC numbers. Antoninianii were issued in huge numbers during the reign of Gallienus to pay the troops, due to a big uprise in unrest both on the frontiers of the Empire, and within. Because of this, it is possible to occasionally find silvered antoninianii of this Emperor in almost 'as struck' condition. Edited by sel_69l 05/01/2020 12:42 am Report this Post to the Staff
