To keep the coin collectors happy you can see I used damaged quarters.I don't think it detracts from the final product. If anything it makes each one unique. Certainly makes them harder to work.. :-)
Process is fairly easy First anneal coin. Then dap middle with a wooden Dapping block and a delrin punch. Re-anneal, put coin on edge and hammer over side, flip and repeat. Re-anneal and use smooth pliers to even out the sides. Punch the top of the hat with a straight line punch. Finally pickle and polish
