I saw this interesting lot of coins on ebay today. I bid on them but didn't win the auction. It has a beat up Procopius, a FEL TEMP REPARATIO that looks like it might be double-struck and some other decent coins.

It was the coin on the top left, a coin with busts on both sides, that intrigued me. On the laureate side I can read the Greek word "basileus" or king, but can't make out anything else.

I don't know if it's copper/bronze or toned silver. It's a curious piece. Can anyone ID it?

Thanks,

I bid on this auction as well, also didn't win.

I thought it was RPC 1718 as well: https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/coins/1/1718

My wife and I went for a walk this afternoon, so I put in a bid (which was the high one) and then we left. When I checked later, I had lost all three auctions from this seller on which I had bid.

These were some interesting lots.

I guess you should never exercise. It's bad on the collecting.

I am often shocked by some of the auction prices I am seeing of late
You might think people would be reluctant to pay premium prices for coins that really don't seem
(to me anyways) as being all that extraordinary
But auctions are funny things
But I did nail down a very decent 4-5th century BC 20 gram Akragas AE (Eagle crab & octopus) for just over $100
The same auction I saw a very ordinary looking Constantinopolis commemorative sell for $70
If not for another last second bidder the Akragas AE might have been mine for $40 !

You just never know
