Looks like the common master die doubling found for this year. Over half of the 1972s from all three mints show this doubling. While it is a doubled die, it doesn't command a premium.

http://www.varietyvista.com/01b%20L...2PDDO010.htm

Quote:
Description: Medium spread as an extra bar above the '2' of the date.

It is the small bar on the right that is the DDO on this die. All the rest of the doubling you are seeing is common on the master die doubling. Your coin is MDD, but the DDO is missing on the tail of the horizontal bar on the '2'.

I was fooled by this same phenomenon myself. Coins like this are why it's extra important to read the description on variety vista/Wexler's. A lot of the time, the doubling may only actually be in one tiny part of the coin.

On variety vista, you have to read the description first. As all the devices will match 50% of the coins that year from all three mints. Just that one area is the only area affected on the 009, 010.

Of course thank you all. This was completely my mistake. A good learning experience in my opinion.

Need to be much more careful next time.

SilverCents, don't be too hard on yourself, we've all been there. Chin up, and on to the next one. Keep searching!

Don't think of this thread as a negative. All who read this thread will benefit with information that was brought out. Life is a learning experience. If you don't live, you don't experience anything. This will helps other also. Now the forum know to look at the Descriptions on the Variety Vista. Also the differences between dies 001-008 are the same class 1 doubled dies. The 009 and 010 are class 8 doubled dies. Also they are on the master die doubling coins and they only area affected is on the tail of the '2'. So all things are good.
