I do not have a reference book for Shield nickels. Anyone know what repunched date variety this is? Thanks.

Doesn't appear to be a repunched date to me.

Thanks for responding. Maybe it's slight Machine Doubling on the right edge of the numbers or the photo angle and shadows are fooling my eye and there's nothing there.

Here's another 1869 5c that is more obvious.

The first coin I thought had a shot at being a RPD, but it is not listed in Howard Spindel's Shield nickel Viewer. It may be Machine Doubling.

The second coin is definitely Machine Doubling.

with Conder101 the second coin is definitely a RPD, the first could be as well, I'm not sure, I'd like to see the close up photo the same as the second coin posted straight on with no tilt.

I took lots of pics of the date on the first coin but my camera just wouldn't focus for a clear view. The doubling is slight on the right side of the numbers. Here is as good as I could get.

I say Machine Doubling on both coins. Especially that second one. Notice how greatly the devices on the date are reduced? Machine Doubling reduces the size of the original device.
