Hi everyone! I am newer to the Coin World and this is my first post here! I started my fascination with pennies as there is soo much to learn! I am intrigued by the history involved in the changes over the years! Anyhow; I have a 1920 Wheat penny and the backside and edges have what appears to be some sort of silver metal adhered? The shape of the letters on top E. Pluribus seem a bit off to me as well. Again I am new, and may be clueless but dying to know if anyone knows what this is? Thanks so much! Any information is much appreciated. Of note, I edited the lighting and background for pictures of the front as the clarity changes thanks!

Cristiepenny. This Coin Community is the right place to learn about coins. That stuff on the reverse looks to be maybe (solder?). About the letters they look ok to me but that's my opinion. Someone else will have a better answer. Hope to see more of your coins.

@cp, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @rob that this cent has solder or come foreign material on it. There is pretty heavy circulation wear (not atypical though for a 100 year old coin) and assorted dings and areas of flatness (such as the first part of EPU).

Hi! Welcome to Coin Community!, I myself am new to this hobie. So my opinion isn't that relevant, Yet!. But it does look as to be what the second gentleman commented. It's really hard to tell without holding in your own hand and examining it. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. But your definitely in the right place. Oh, by the way I just wanted to compliment you on the pictures! Those are great shots!

If it is solder, then there is nothing that can be done. The damage would exceed the value to correct the issue. It is just a coin that would go into a bulk collection of wheat cents. Any way of trying to remove the issue would result in further ruining the coin.

Thank you all so much! Very helpful&
Also, thank you for the photo compliments! I've learned a few zoom and lighting tricks to take the best photos when examining for details it makes it MUCH easier! Lol that's a hobby in itself! I've created an album on my phone for my coins as I often get carried away and forget to go back and look up more info! Makes it much easier!
