So we have the same design since 1966, so I wanted shake things up a little bit, also every coin will have Elizabeth II on the obverse, but assuming she's not immortal, after her reign, I'd like to see our coins removing any monarchs and instead portray just our coat of arms on the obverse like Jamaica and Belize who still have the queen as the monarch! 1. The 5 cent coin, even though it's almost worthless, I'd still like to retain it, but use Aluminium or copper-plated zinc, and depict a Tasmanian devil! 2. Reduce the size of ¢10 to new size in between the current one and the ¢5, and depict the 'Leafy Sea Dragon' https://www.australiangeographic.co...-sea-dragon/3. Increase the denomination of ¢20 to ¢25 and reduce the size to the American quarter, with the depiction of this cute little Quokka https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/23...80423513370/4. Reduce the size of ¢50 to the UK 50p, but keep that same shape, depict the Kangaroo on the old one penny coin https://www.allcoinvalues.com/austr...y-value.html5. Keep the same size of one dollar, but change the shape to 'Spanish flower' like in the Euro cents [ https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces109.html], and depict a Wedge-tail eagle in flight https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/52...50617647209/6. Increase the size of $2 coin to that of ¢20, depict the Australian COA that's on the ¢50 coins. 7. A new $5 coin, bimetallic, the inner metal depicts Uluru, while a 'rainbow serpent' circles the outer ring https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/43...70542231829/ similar to this coin [ https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces38161.html] Edited by Ag47 05/12/2020 6:51 pm

That's probably what will happen when Her reign ends,Labor has made it clear they do not want Charles on our currency and the Libs. will, depending on the PM at the time, take it as an opportunity to further nationalise our currency.

I am not ashamed of my heritage. As long as the British Monarch is Australian Head of State (whoever that is), their image should remain on the obverse side of the coinage.
If we have a President instead, that can only come about by a majority of Australian voters in a majority of Australian States and Territories in a National Referendum. That is in the Australian Constitution. My feelings about my heritage then get ignored. That is then OK. I am, after all, an Australian.
I have some personal views as well, when it comes to the revision of our coinage. Nevertheless, it is essential to remember that huge costs will be involved, if there is a major reformation of the Coinage, which has to be balanced against estimated potential savings.
My view is that the Royal Australian Mint could be commissioned to conduct a plebecite, to find the opinions of those interested in a reformation of the Coinage. I will most probably contribute to such a plebescite, but at the end of the day, the Mint will have to decide, because that is the organisation that will be producing the coinage.
Decades ago, I spoke at length with Stuart Devlin - the designer of the definitive designs on the reverse of our coinage. I received great insight about the cultural and technical reasons on why and how the chosen designs came about.
So long as the lower denominations of co polymer plastic are cheaper to produce (in the long run) that the coins they are likely to replace, they should remain in circulation.

Good to see that arguing about real people on coins is not just an American thing.

Not really a argument,i don't have an opinion either way on our Coinage or the timetable for moving to a Republic, far more personal issues to worry about in this Covid World. As long as we don't have Mao or Xi Jinping on our currency I don't really care how long the Royal Family is involved.
Helen Clark the former NZ PM said it would be better in the long run if NZ had the US$ as its currency,it would solve a lot of problems and mean a more stable monetary system.

Quote: Not really a argument... Yeah, I was just teasing a bit. We do like to argue about the dead people on our coins. Quote: As long as we don't have Mao or Xi Jinping on our currency I don't really care how long the Royal Family is involved. Seems like a fair request to me.

I think you have selected some excellent animals to be represented on the currency!

If we aren't having Charles on the back of the coins the obvious choice would be Dame Edna on all coins except the tiny 5c coin which of course would have Kylie on it.

Personally I don't mind however I can see why some people might not like the monarchy. As for the design I don't like any of the old queens Elizabeth 2 designs expect maybe the 2001 50c one passable, and the predecimal young head is not bad with ribbon in her hair.
As for the Kings of australain for all of them are quite nice obverser designs expect George 3rd bull head that's really UK coins tho.
I shall await the Charles 3rd, ;)

There are many reasons why there aren't many countries that use quarters.
Imagine you got to give change for 40 cents, 60 cents
