OK before we start This coin is in bad shape. Good at best. I was trying to see the date and noticed a bar sticking out of the top of the four. It is kinda obvious. Looking on coinsandcanada, there is no mention of this error. Some of you are going to say PMD or some such, but I am sticking to the 4 over 1 on this one. It is in bad condition but noticeable.

Then why bother to offer the coin up for opinion from both our large cent experts, some of whom who wrote the books on various die studies, and our error experts, if your mind is already made up?

Well, to start with, you have an Obv 4, of which there were none in 1891. 1891 just had Obv 2 & 3 and neither of those is the Obv that you have. They may have grabbed the wrong punch (a 1 instead of a 4) to repunch the 4, maybe to stop a D/C from spreading, but I doubt it very much and the shape of the coin doesn't allow much inspection as to the anomalies. It's a '94 that's led a hard life.

Looks like the top of the 4 got hit and moved to the left. It is PMD.
