What can I say but I love the toning on this coin. The reverse blue is just spectacular. So how do you see this Morgan? Edited by KauaiHawaiiGuy 05/15/2020 1:22 pm

AU-55. The toning looks a little odd so I'm thinking this one was possibly cleaned at some point.

The toning does not look natural. When I look a toned coin, I ask the question what environment did the coin tone? Is the toning wood grain, paper, envelope, album, canvas bag, cigar box, felt, etc. How did the coin tone?

I'll say AU-55, unsure if these are original surfaces.

I'll go AU55 details, questionable color. It's the reverse that red flags this piece for me. Under the eagles chin, around the star between America and dollar, it appears as if a liquid pooled.....

Agree with AU-55, questionable color. The obverse could easily pass as natural, but the reverse looks like incomplete rinsing of a dip or some other chemical. Still, it looks like an attractive coin.

When I started collecting I bought some swedish silvercoins online with nice pictures of what looked to be untoned unc coins (wich the seller also claimed in the auction ). Had them stored for about a year without looking at them since I changed direction to US coins. When I after a year took a look at the coins they all had the same goldenbrown toning your first obverse picture shows and traces of fingerprint wich can be seen in the reverse. Therefor I suspect the toning is a reaction caused by dipping.

Agree pretty clear someone dipped this coin, maybe decades ago, to try to get rid of some very dark toning but the dip didn't strip everything, they didn't rinse it quickly enough, and as a result you get these gouged out looking areas where there is deep tarnish removal and subsequent unnatural looking colors, and other areas that are still dark and gunky. Not the ugliest coin I've ever seen but this would be almost certain to get bagged for AT as well as improper conservation.
