Hi guys,

I own two Canadian coin sets. Ones that look like small black booklets in leather binding. One is 1980 and the other is 1989. Both sets have (silver) dollar coins slightly toning in a gold colour on the edges. My question is different. Is this blueish discolouration/toning (?) On the dollar coin normal? It's visible when you look at the coin on 90 degrees, and somehow invisible when you look from 45 degrees. Please see the pictures.
Is this toning normal for the sets of that age?

Are they double dollar sets?
The 1989 should be a proof.
Do you have pics of the sets and of both sides of both coins?
Silver is subject to it's environment.
Any kind of toning is possible and "normal".
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Hi DBM, 1980 is a double dollar set. It has two one dollars and the piece of paper in it says so. I think 1989 has only got one silver and a 'loonie' dollar in it. I will try to take a picture of them (they're buried deep with other sets in a box) tomorrow and ask for comments. I am practically illiterate when it comes to Canadian coins. Some insight would have been good. Thanks for the reply.
