Can a working die produce almost the same 'die chip' on various coins like a doubled die?.... my question is just for me, the newbie... to learn... thanks...

Here's another coin with almost the same 'die chip' the reason I am asking....thanks, again.

Looks like a small date with a very large die chip on the 6.

Yes! A die chip occurs when a small piece of the die breaks, or chips, off. There's no way a die will get that piece of metal back, so every coin struck with the die will have that feature.

If it breaks off the die, all coins after that will have the same die chip or get worse as it is continued to be used. If you have a broken hub, then you can have several dies created with the same hub chip. (which will be incuse and not raised on the device on that area)

Always willing to share little bits of information. If this were in a book, probably no one would read it. So a teaspoon at a time helps to reduce the load of learning. Same images and even the post as a screen shot. That way you will have a record of it.
