folks.

I just pulled this 1955 D (RPM) and when I went to look it up on Lincoln site, wexlers, coppercoins variety vista, I don't see anything close to this. Could I be onto something here? Please advise...Thanks so much in advance. There is a bunch of gunk around the RPM but it is still pretty obvious.I would like to clean this area up around the date and mint mark. Should I do? Should I send in for acknowledgement somewhere?

Maybe RPM002- Stage A for this 1955? I just see a bit more of the original D in the middle of the new D stamp. Look in the center if you wouldn't mind. Variety vista is slightly different that this one.

Thanks

Very nice RPM @chavez. Looks like it is listed over on varietyvista as 1955-D RPM-002:

In looking at the diagnostic T in CENT, it looks like you might be stage A/B, but a clearer close-up pic would help.

Spence. There is no die break on the T. What you are seeing is a dent in the same area where the die crack would be. I'm calling this Stage A.

I've soaked coins in solvent Acetone I believe. Should I do this so the RPM can be a bit more pleasing to the eye?

Ok good to know--I couldn't tell if it was a ding or the start of a die chip. I personally wouldn't do anything to "improve" this coin prior to putting it into a 2x2 for storage, but many folks do like the acetone bath.

Great find! See if a rinse in pure acetone will remove any of that gunk so you can see it better.
