Looks like Abe has got some bad razor burn & His eyes and mouth appear missing. Looks similar to zinc rot but this is a copper coin. I'm sure there is an easy explanation so please enlighten me. Reverse has it too.

Possible rusty die? I'm recalling from Mike Diamond's site error-ref.com. Looks a lot like the example he has on there.

thanks Josephm99, I took a look at Mikes site and it does look like a rusted die issue.

This is super common on 1971. I can't say what to attribute it to, rusty dies or whatever, but I see it all the time. Makes seeing the good stuff harder but never have found a doubled die on a coin showing this.

Interesting TB, I tried looking up cent examples of this in CCF and online and could only find Indian Head examples. I think it's a fun error though not valuable. The fact that it looks like environmental PMD but is not is intriguing.

I got this pict off an ebay listing.
