I agree, funny thing; if you tilt the bill in the light, it has a gloss buildup only over mint ink. Almost like double punched? Even with the damage; it's funny it changed a 5 to a 6?

It looks to me like it's coated with shellac or something.

It almost reminds me of notes stored too long in non-Mylar holders with the plasticizers leaching into the note.

I have the same kind of ink run on my $2 that I have owned since issue in 1976. The mint mark has what looks like raised shellac on it and on the 7's too.
