Hi, I'm looking for information on currency that the Japanese had printed up for their anticipated invasion of Hawaii. My uncle's company secured a cave somewhere in the South Pacific during world war II and in the cave was millions of dollars of money that was printed up to look like US money except it had a picture of emperor Hirohito instead of a US president. also on the front of the bill to the left of the picture Hawaii was printed in dark blue outline letters. This is not to be confused with US money stamped with Hawaii and the back and hollow outline letters. I've been searching the internet and haven't found any information on this money, which I find a little bit odd because last time I did a search for this maybe 15 to 20 years ago information was readily available. I do know that the Treasury department declared this money as counterfeit so people aren't allowed to own the bills anymore but I expected to run into pictures of some of this currency. If anyone can point me in the direction of the internet source of information about this money I would appreciate it. Thank you Edited by aabum

Japanese Malaysian invasion money is in dollars are has been improperly thought to be for the invasion of the us. Their invasion of Malaysia also started at the same time as Peal Harbor. Millions of the Philippine invasion money were found upon liberation by the us, they were printing hyperinflation notes in Malaysia so similar quantities are probably possible. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan...vasion_money |

There is no evidence that the Japanese printed money for the invasion of Hawaii.
They would not have printed any money with the current emperor's portrait. And they would not have hidden it in some random cave in the Pacific.
This story sounds like the bogus stories about Morgenthau bonds and hidden loot in the Philippines.

to the CCF !If the notes looked like copies of U.S. notes, but with a portrait of Hirohito on them, I suspect that they were Japanese propaganda notes, and not 'official' Japanese Invasion Money. Wikipedia has a good article with pictures on Japanese Invasion Money, and the territories for which they were issued. Google Images has a comprehensive range of Japanese Invasion Money notes pictured. None of those shown have a picture of Hirohito on them. The U.S. Feds did in fact, issue official U.S. currency notes in Hawaii with a black 'HAWAII' overprinting on the reverse. Find on Google Images. Edited by sel_69l

No this isn't a bogus story. I have have held the bills in my hand. As I said my uncle is amongst the troops that found this and a cave That was being used by the Japanese as, well I don't know what to call it. The Japanese used gave extensively. The general that was in charge of the troops had defeated had stashed a bunch of items he had looted from China. My uncle has a old grass plate that he had appraised, it must be 50 years ago, and it was from one of the Chinese dynasties. I don't remember the details. anyways he had a bunch of this money mixed in with a lot of other Japanese invasion money and other miscellaneous currency that he had acquired during the war. Now I'm calling in Japanese invasion money for Hawaii simply because it had Hawaii on the front of the bill and dark blue outline letters the left of the picture. And the picture was of emperor Hirohito. Coming from a family of world war II veterans I was very familiar with hirohito's image. As I mentioned in my original post when I investigated this money 15 or 20 years ago I was able to find information about it onthe internet. It's been so long I'm going don't remember the details but I do remember I had posted in a forum somewhere and people on that forum were aware of this currency and are the ones that directed me to the fact it had recently been declared counterfeit currency by the Treasury department. That there's not a trail of information to follow about this money is somewhat surprising. I don't know what to say. But it's not a scam it's not a hoax it's not anything other than searching for information.

The Japanese invaded a large area of China (known to history as Manchukuo), before WW2.
