Very nice. Split after the strike, and it looks like it was more or less right down the middle.

That is pretty neat! I just gotta ask....did PCGS charge double since they used 2 slabs?

Fascinating...I like how Lincoln is visible in the faces of the split. The XF40/45 grade is intriguing--are we to believe these circulated and then reunited?

Quote: I just gotta ask....did PCGS charge double since they used 2 slabs? Of course they did...hence two grades the most important part was getting them to acknowledge they were one coin therefore the COIN #1 and COIN #2 designation.

I should have known...
Isn't it strange that they labeled the Reverse half as "COIN #1" and the Obverse as "COIN #2"

Actually the Normal Reverse is on Coin #2 that's why the Lincoln profile looks normal and the Coin #1 is the mirror image of the Normal Obverse. They holdered them with the split on the front.

Hey guys, they didn't circulate and then become reunited. Most error folks will look at a coin for any sign of assistance. If you look above LIBERTY, there is a pretty pronounced scratch.
Occasionally, you can see signs of a planchet splitting when the coin is intact. If done correctly you can sometimes assist the process. I am not saying that the person who currently owns the coin separated the parts but it is a possibility based upon the only scratch which is an outward sign of having been messed with.
Thanks, Bill
