I found an auction here in a Turkish e-bay-like site. The guy is selling a 1886 Morgan silver dollar. The coin is in the package as seen below. Can anyone give me an opinion, how much is this coin worth. According to the books, or any other personal opinion is appreciated. So I may consider bidding. Edited by RenaL 02/06/2006 09:41 am

Hi RenaL The pics are quite small for determining an estimate of grade,, which in turn become value,, RedBook lists this coin in MS-60 for $30.00 MS-63 at $45.00 and MS-64 at $60.00 this would be a high retail for this coin a very common date of the Morgan series. I wish I could be more specific ,, but if it were me if I could not buy it for less than the 30.00 price as a raw coin I would pass. Rick

I asked dealer for some more info. Waiting for reply. Auction is currently at 26.30 $ but the only bidder is a professional collector/dealer. I wonder if I can get this coin at a reasonable price having him as competition.

This is packaged by Littleton a company that charges a little more per coin than the average dealer (my experience) When I tried to enlarge the image you posted the date on the coin does not appear to be 1886- maybe it is my eyes- can anyone get a better read on the date?

Now I tried to enlarge and you may be right, the date seemed odd. I hopefully get a larger image when the dealer checks his mailbox.

The picture quality is very bad, and blown up its even worse, but I think your right RG the date looks like 1898,, which really doesn't change much exact same pricing .But it does make me more suspicious of the seller !!!

I have made many transactions with this guy and nothing unexpected yet. Even if the date is different, which we are not sure, it must be some kind of a mistake. I'll just wait for my mail's reply.
Thanks a lot, I at least had an idea for my upper limit.

I got the mail, pics he sent are a little bigger, the date can be read as 1886, condition is stated as uncirculated.

We can buy the uncirculated "raw" 1886 Morgan dollar in the $30 to $35 dollar range all day long over here so it would be best if you just pass this one up until we can arrange another trade in the future as that is a very common date and readily available. Actually if I/we keep our eyes out I/we can probably find a really nice AU coin for much less money. It would be according to what condition of coin you could live with in your collection?

OK then, I'll pass this one. I don't have any particular condition or date with these coins, just wondered if it was something fancy.
Thank you all for the help;)
