Found this today and it is my first for a 1939-P. I am not sure which one it is, but maybe a RCD-1c-1939-02R? Your opinions are appreciated, thank you.

Okay, I guess it's time for a lesson for this old man... I was led to believe that the term "Pre Cud" replaced the term " Retained Cud" and that they were basically the same thing. Clearly I am mistaken. Please, if you have the time, educate me on the differences. Thanks, Coop!

Well I'm an old timer, so it could be both I guess. They are the same thing. Just the term I learned years ago.

Thanks Coop, Retained Cud is the term I have been using as well, but I see that Pre Cud is being used on Cuds-on-Coins now. I'm pretty sure I remember that John1 has been calling them "Pre Cuds" for a while now. As often happens now-a-days, I am a little confused as to which term to use. Maybe, as you say, it doesn't matter... anybody else know anything or have an opinion/preference either way?

I like the " Retained Cud" better. It describes it better in my opinion and is less confusing.

Nice find by the way!

My understanding is, a die crack from rim to rim that hasn't moved is a pre Cud. When it shifts a bit it is a Retained Cud?

Pre-Cud suggests these die breaks eventually developed into Cuds. Anyone know how often that is the case?
