SamCoin Pillar of the Community United States 3237 Posts	Posted 06/02/2020 08:48 am I imagine many will be aware of this information, but I think it will be useful to many others, since I posted a while ago about identifying the reverse of 89 variety, and found that even more-experienced members found it to be one of the trickier ones to positively ID (ditto for some of the TPGs apparently lol). I just realized that, although the FG is the point of distinction usually drawn between the RDV-005 and RDV-006, the changes in the lettering on UNITED STATES of AMERICA are actually much more dramatic and easily visible. Particularly, I suggest looking at the bridges of the A's (which will be much more square and thick on the 006) and the tail of the R (which will be much more curly on the 005). I hope this information can be useful to someone! still useless to me as I've never found one, but at least now I have a more reliable way to confirm the ID than the often-poorly-struck or abraided designer's initials. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/02/2020 3:19 pm The devices are wider on the whole reverse on the RDV-006. But note the 'AM' area? On is rounded (RDV-005)and the other is flat. (RDV-006) The 1989 doesn't have a RDV-005. Often worn dies examples are considered as RDV-005s, when they are not. All the REV-006 on the 1988 that I've seen are fresher dies. The 'FG' shows now die wear. So if the 'FG' is weak, it is a RDV-005 (normal for this year). The had to get into the next years dies, when the 005's ran short in 1988. Thus the year variety of the RDV-006s for that year.
