Just curious as to opinions here on a banknote I saw on ebay. To me, this note is ruined and worth far less than the banknote alone. However, it seems to be getting bid up to a decent premium. Am I just out of touch? Is this a thing?

Honestly....

I don't get it either.... but I don't understand the serial numbers being collectible either on notes. So don't take my word for it. My dealer has a few (seems to be $2 bills from 1976 with a 7/4/1976 stamp), they don't sell. Buts its ebay, people will buy anything on ebay. Heck people on here will buy anything. In the end if its something you like, buy it. I myself wouldn't.

Note just sold recently on Heritage. Not a very expensive note to begin with. I've seen this done before, mostly with deuces.

In 1976, the note was probably only worth about $30.00 so it did not destroy too much value then.

4 July 1976, 200th birthday of our nation. It was a big thing in the 70s, and even earlier. Made the mint and postmaster a little extra money in the process. Have it sent to yourself and cancelled at your local postmaster. Have several passed down from family, although not really a fan myself. That one on the ebay link sold for $226.00.
