One of the most recent off metal from the RCM, the state of the art laser must have been down or being serviced. Weight is 1.7 grams Edited by john100 06/09/2020 12:06 pm

Interesting...I would have thought that if it were struck on a 10c planchet you would see less details around the rim (denticles and beads) seeing as its on a smaller planchet.

I don't think that it's a dime planchet either ... maybe foreign?

Weight is almost right on 1.7 to 1.75 grams, it's a touch off center like most penny on dimes, and doesn't match any foreign planchet

Yes, but if it were a (smaller) dime planchet you shouldn't be seeing much in the way of beads or denticles. And if it was offstruck, which yours appears to be, you should be seeing even less...

That the same one that you showed us at the last meeting of the minds, in Richard's store?

And if it was offstruck, which yours appears to be, you should be seeing even less... In 1979, yes, the 1c presses were set up to strike bronze planchets, while the 10c press was set up to strike the much harder nickel composition planchets. In 2011, the presses were set up to strike copper-plated steel (or zinc) planchets. The 10c press in 2011 was striking multi-ply plated steel planchets, so in other words, the same as the copper-plated steel 1c planchets, but with a thick plating layer of nickel on them. All my 1c struck on 10c planchets after 2000, look quite similar to this one.
