I thought I'd add an unofficial ancient to my collection to add a bit of interest, and this Eastern Celts imitating Antigonos II Gonatas bronze caught my eye. However I can't find any reference to the "Reference: Cf. HGC 3.1, 1049 (for prototype)" in the description, anywhere. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks. Eastern Celts imitating Antigonos II Gonatas. 2nd-1st century BC. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right. Reverse: Pan standing right, erecting trophy to right. Diameter: 15 mm. Weight: 2.4 gr.

Thanks again Bob. It wasn't listed under Eastern Celts in Wildwinds, and ACSearch kept bringing up official issues, so it's nice to be heading in the right direction now.

Cool pick up Jim. ...I know nothing 'per se' about unofficial issues... So am I right in thinking the OP coin is trying to imitate something like this..? Æ17 271-239 BC. Ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedon, Antigonos II Gonatas BTW....Nice avatar change

Quote: So am I right in thinking the OP coin is trying to imitate something like this..? That does indeed look like the coin the imitation was based on Paul. Thanks re the avatar. It is more in keeping with the coins I've been posting. I haven't touched the sovereign collection for a long time now. Too expensive! I like your new avatar as well. Is the regal looking gentleman Antoninus Pius?
