I picked up this 1889 Morgan on ebay for $30. It was offered raw and the seller didn't put any grade on it, but from his photos it looked decent. The black line from the chin to the eye is a very thin mark which catches the light. There are scattered marks on the obverse but the reverse looks nice. The top two photos are mine taken in natural light. The third is the seller's photo. Thanks for you opinions. Paul Bulgerin

I'm Thinking its about an AU55 but it didn't have the best time in the bag so I'm not 100% sure.

@TobyJ I personally don't think it's a '63 because I have an MS63 NGC Morgan that looks a lot better than that but then again it was graded around 2004-2008 so maybe his is a 63 because of gradeflation but I'm not sure.

Looks like a super nice AU-58 slider to me. The luster looks flat, like a baking soda and water cleaning job.

After looking at it better I would also say AU58. P.S. What do you guys mean by AU58 "Slider"?

Trace rub on the high points will keep it out of MS-64, but I don't think is enough to indicate circulation. Fields are super clean. MS-63.

Thanks for the responses so far.
While the reverse is very nice, Liberty's cheeks have quite a few marks when viewed under magnification. I can't detect any noticeable rub on the cheeks, but it may be hard to see with all the chatter there.

Quote: P.S. What do you guys mean by AU58 "Slider"? Slider refers to a coin being in between MS and AU so it could go either way. Feel free to correct me

AU58 or MS63. personally I'd rather have a nice 58 over a crappy marked up 63. the mark across the face doesn't help and if it is a scratch then I don't think she would grade straight

I would agree.
The mark across the face doesn't show, nor does the black show, when the coin is held "in hand".
Magnification can do some nasty things to an otherwise nice looking coin.
I will label this one an AU-58.
