Going through some recent acquisitions today
I went to research this interesting Æ of Empress Julia Domna
The descriptions list these as being Draped Bust Right
And they are .....
But I couldn't help but notice the shoulder decoration
It appears on all of this type
It really looks to me like the 'old girl' is wearing her cuirass beneath ?
If anyone has read anything about the Julia's of the Severan Dynasty (Domna Maesa Mamaea Soaemias)
these were not women to be any way trifled with
"Be Prepared" was ever their motto
Macrinus found that out the hard way !
Later even Elagabalus learned that dear old Grand Mama had her limits
Well I didn't buy it for any of the above reasons
I just can't resist a nifty temple reverse !
