OK, so this is supposed to be the VAM subforum and nobody has any clue what an S/S RPM looks like? Nobody would look at that and say "The upper loop is filled and there's lines in the lower loop, so this might be an S/S north?" Nobody mentions the MM positioning and orientation, which is very important when doing attribution? Just sarcasm and arrogance? It's too bad nobody wants to help anyone learn the nuances of VAM attribution. I hope someone learns from this topic.

The coin is a 1881 S. I estimate grade in the high AU range. Very nice toning. The MM is very, very close to (and may well be) reverse C3J. Which example on VAMworld, by the way, also has PMD making that commentary less than useful. The obverse has assorted die markers. Possible slight date doubling (I have to do more comparison with VAMworld pix) and a die gouge below the designer initial. The usual die chips in the first 8 both left and right. The reverse has a few die chips, below the Eagle's left wing and on the left leg/talon. It may (still looking at it) have some other reverse markers. Poss. chips in wreath leaves, poss. engraving enhancements. If anyone is interested and isn't too arrogant to be worth a darn, I will post more pix of the die markers I just mentioned.

It Might be reverse C3s If you are asking for a VAM confirmation it would have been nice to have pictures of the other markers as well as picture of the full coin from the start. No one else has been arrogant as far as I can see.

If you want to be a contributing member, then show all the info needed from the git go instead of being cryptic with the obvious intention of trying to embarrass people. That will make you no friends here. Quite ironic you use the words sarcasm and arrogance......

Yah. I have done that before - posted complete info with lots of pics - and got the same glib responses as I did with this MM challenge. It was not intended to embarrass anyone. It was not even intended to shine a light on the fact that there are people who don't represent the site well. That was an unintended consequence.
Next time I do post complete info and multiple images asking for attribution help and advice again, assuming I do, hopefully people will think a little before posting useless and unhelpful comments.
You see, I am just a bit jaded from some of my experiences on CC forums. I don't like getting thoroughly unhelpful and in some cases snarky responses when I am asking for help, and I'm sure there aren't a lot of people who do like being treated like that when they're asking for help.
No games here. This was, in my considered opinion, a valid challenge, and it just happened to highlight the sort of comments that people experience too often, instead of giving me the real results I was hoping to see. I truly did expect that people would look at that mintmark zone and give a decent, honest assessment, which only happened after I blew up in anger at the cr.. responses that were posted.
Re-read the first four replies. Which one is helpful to anyone? Which one is even an analysis of the image?
I apologize for venting.
By the way, the reverse is definitely not C3J. My Eagle has more feathers around the neck - may be more than normal for a C3, like perhaps engraving-enhanced? I will post a pic of that shortly.
BTW, looking at the PCGS photograde examples, this could be an MS63 with an MS65 reverse.
