Is there a good price guide for these tokens or should I just browse ebay sold auctions or what?
And how many kinds of these have been produced?

@jtl, I use an old copy of Rulau's Standard Catalog of United States Tokens 1700-1900 for attributing (but I don't use anything for pricing).

@Spence
When purchasing them do you just go off the asking price?

Yes but to be fair, I'm not much of a purchaser of these things anymore. @j1 provides good advice on pricing.

ebay will give you a general idea of value but keep in mind there are many varieties in each series. Good pictures will go a long way in helping you should you list there.

As was mentioned above this is a good starter book that has nice pictures, some pricing and a good history background. I am not sure of the most newest and up to date book though. I guess you would want the most newest not sure if this is it. I found it on the Wizzard web site. $29.99
