Haha, the community already had a good laugh about this one. Can't find the original thread, but I'm sure jbuck (the Robot) will find it.
Anyways, the story is that back in the 60s and the 50s, mint marks were everywhere, near the date, far from the date, and yes, touching a small part of the date. This is not uncommon, and certainly NOT worth dropping 8k.
***Oh yeah, the one we had a good laugh about was the 1956D one. I actually replied to the seller with a 56D one I had with the mint mark touching, and he said mine was a fake, but he would have bought it for $1.***

These people are vastly uninformed and are trying to make a quick buck. Because they are representing the coin for what it is (a touching mintmark) and because the coin is real, ebay will do nothing about it....even though the price is $7,999.95 too much.

yes, it is real.
And, no, not worth $8 grand. The seller is a fool. (to be kind.)

You people are just being to kind to these type of sellers. Both auctions are conducted by people who have absolutely no idea what is going on, have no ambition to find out the truth and when presented with it are highly indignant because it counters their claim to fame.
To be honest with you, their ploy is to see their name in the lights. As the andale counter clicks off the visits to these incisively ridiculous auctions, they regale in the numbers seen.

Been there and tried that. ebay, as long as they make money they basically do not care at all. I have tried to do something about some "dealers" and was told "their overall rating was acceptable and there is nothing we can do.WHEN MONEY DOES ALL THE TALKING, YOUR VOICE FALLS ON DEAF EARS!!

Well it floors me that someone would even try something like that. It's costing him $4 atleast to list that thing lol. What a waste.....
